Asteys Row and New River Walk

On a sunny but chilly early Autumn day 8 artists met in Asteys Row Rock Garden, which is at the southern end of Islington's New River Walk. Some of us sketched from the pocket parks surrounding the children's play area and some of us went up as far as the Marquess pub and drew the New River from there.

There were plenty of diverse subjects to chose from.

The New River was part of a project to bring clean water from Hertfordshire to inner London. Now it has been reduced to 'canal' status with attempts to keep the water moving as the waterway is no longer linked up. In Islington volunteers are desludging the canal. It is a favourite haunts of ducks and their offspring, but we were too late in the year to see the ducklings. It is a little haven of nature in a very urban environment.

We went to the Dolce cafe on Essex Road for lunch, where we were served huge quantities of salads with wraps or paninis attached, and had a jolly time.

Save Tuesday 3rd October for the next outing. The venue is to be confirmed.
